Alex Niedbalski was born in France in 1974, where she was raised.

Meeting Wanda Sykes
Niedbalski met Sykes for the first time in 2006 during a ferry ride around Fire Island. Sykes stated that Niedbalski was hanging out with a little child while carrying a computer bag, and this made Sykes realize that she needed some stability in her own life.
‘Something said to me – like, audibly – “Wow, that’s what you need, Wanda,”’ she noted. She also mentioned a funny anecdote – at the same time of said vacation, she was remodeling her kitchen, and all of her friends joked that she’d never pick a date if she keeps boring everyone with talks about the remodeling. A few days later, one of those friends introduced her to their friend who was working with granite countertops so the kitchen remodeling could be continued – and it turns out that the person at stake was the gorgeous woman who Sykes saw at a ferry ride, and she happened to be single! Sykes’ states that one of her bigger life crises happened when she was 40, when she came out to her parents, who are very conservative. Both her mother and her father were shocked by her sexuality and refused to accept it at first – they even refused to go her wedding – but the family reconciled several years later.

The couple wed in secret on 25th October 2008. The marriage was kept undisclosed until a month later, when Sykes publicly came out at a same-sex marriage parade regarding Proposition 8 in Las Vegas.
This quickly became the talk of the town, especially as prior to this relationship Sykes was married to Dave Hall, American record producer, and the marriage lasted for seven years, from 1991 to 1998. She later gave her complaints about the marriage, claiming that she was bored in that relationship and that she never really understood why she stayed in it for so long. Next year, on April 27, Alex gave birth to fraternal twins – a daughter and a son, respectively named Olivia Lou Sykes and Lucas Claude Sykes.
